OHIO EXPORT LEADERS CONVERGE IN COLUMBUS
Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Awards Announced During Ohio Global Summit

COLUMBUS – Ohio Governor Ted Strickland today recognized the contributions of 27 Ohio exportleaders at the Ohio Global Summit, an event sharing successful strategies for global trade by Ohiobased international business experts. Strickland announced the 2009 Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Awards at a ceremony today at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus.

"Ohio is the only state in the nation to see export growth every year since 1998,” Strickland said. “An important part of our strategy to create economic opportunity at home is to expand Ohio’s global economic presence. Ohio’s export partners like Gormann Rupp of Mansfield and Ludlow Composites of Fremont are leading the way.”

Since 1986 the Governor's Excellence in Exporting Awards (e-Awards) have recognized companies and organizations of all sizes that have shown superior performance in exporting or heightened awareness of exporting as a vital component of Ohio’s economy.

Now in its second year, the Ohio Global Summit provides more than 300 exporters, service providers, and other stakeholders the opportunity to participate in break-out sessions with global trade representatives and experts from both the public and private sectors.

“International business creates value and opportunities on both sides of the business transaction,” said R. Kerry Clark, chairman of Cardinal Health, who provided the keynote address at the event. “While global trade is important to the Ohio and U.S. economies, I also believe it creates a safer, more stable world.”

The Gorman Rupp Company of Mansfield (Richland County) is this year’s Exporter of the Year in the Large Business category. The Gorman-Rupp Pump Company manufactures an extensive line of pumps that include self-priming centrifugal, standard centrifugal, submersible, trash, priming assisted, rotary gear, and diaphragm pumps.

Ludlow Composites Corporation of Fremont (Sandusky County) takes the honor for this year’s Small & Medium Business Exporter of the Year. Ludlow Composites Corporation is a widely recognized and respected world manufacturer of matting and foam products.

"Ohio’s performance in the global marketplace creates opportunities that extend beyond our nation’s borders,” said Lisa Patt-McDaniel, interim director of the Ohio Department of Development. "Our skilled workforce, unparalleled location, logistics capabilities, and competitive business environment make Ohio an ideal location for business investment and export opportunity."

In 2008, Ohio companies exported more-than $45 billion in goods, an increase of nearly 7 percent over 2007.
